The Operational Stress Injury Clinic is proud to present a collaborative education day to foster and enhance knowledge on two separate topics within trauma; substance use and suicide.

This educational event will split the day into two components; a focus on substance use in the morning, and a focus on suicide in the afternoon. The morning will be lead by members of The Royal’s Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program, Dr. Kim Corace, Dr. Louise Overington and Dr. Suzanne Bell. The afternoon will be lead by members of The Royal’s Operational Stress Injury Clinic, Dr. Jean-Philippe Daoust and Raphaela Fleisher MSW, RSW.

Learning Objectives

  • 1. Definition, prevalence and overview of substance use and suicide within the context of trauma

  • 2. Screening tools and assessment measures for substance use and suicidality

  • 3. An introduction to treatment approaches and interventions to help with substance use and suicide

  • 4. Interactive breakout sessions to optimize and consolidate learnings
